Student Initiative for Africa (SIFA) works in partnership with Discover the World (DTW) to contribute practical answers to two of Africa’s largest health hazards: malaria and waterborne diseases. Operating through DTW in Kenya, it is SIFA’s continuing goal to supply those in areas of great need with PermaNets and LifeStraws. All donations have gone and will continue to go towards this cause, and distribution of products will depend solely on the need of the community. However, the distribution is just the first part, a fact that is often forgotten. What is needed is education and health training so that children and their families can fully understand and use the products properly. For this reason, health educators, as well as partners in Nairobi, supervise the administration of products and make sure that they are working and actively reducing disease. Both the funding and administration of these products is very hands on, and SIFA is directly involved in every aspect of the campaign. Last year, SIFA with DTW completed two small scale distributions and, with your help, plan to complete their biggest distribution yet this August, 2009. Any donation, however small, can save a life, and Student Initiative for Africa looks forward to working with you. |
